The PREP Program

The PREP Program is designed to reach the undergraduate EOF student population and to provide them with preparation for health careers training through exposure to biomedical research, MCAT instruction, admissions process preparation, and health careers seminars. It is an intensive six-week residential study program.

Aims and Objectives

  
The aim of the program is to enhance the competitiveness of a selection of undergraduate students from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds as applicants to health professions training programs. The objectives of the program are:

• To pair program participants with medical school faculty engaged in specific research projects for a six-week period after which the student will be able to make a formal presentation of the research findings/experience
• To provide MCAT preparation and skill development training for program participants, such that 75% of those taking the MCAT will receive scores at, or above, the mean for students from comparable backgrounds
• To expose students to various health care professions and the associated application procedures, such that 90% of participants will apply to a health professions training program within two years of graduation
