Testimonials

I graduated from a small, all girls, private high school where my graduating class was a whopping 44 students. Needless to say, my transition to Rutgers University, where the number of students is well into the tens of thousands, was a big one. While Rutgers is expansive and provides its students with numerous opportunities and resources, it is very easy for students to get lost and subsequently fall between the cracks. That is where ODASIS stepped in for me.It is extremely important for any student to find an appropriate niche in which they can thrive and receive the attention they need and deserve. ODASIS, a program designed to help minorities achieve success in the math and sciences, did exactly that. They provided me with exceptional tutoring in challenging math and science courses. They provided me with opportunities to demonstrate my leadership skills and willingness to interact with and help people of all ages through my role as a supplemental instructor. They provided me with direction and advice pertaining to my career aspirations. And perhaps most importantly, ODASIS was a great resource for students who were just like you; students with the same aspirations, goals, and struggles. I am currently a first year medical school student at the University of Pennsylvania where I engaged in research two years ago through ODASIS. ODASIS was my niche and was vital to my undergraduate success at Rutgers University.

As a transfer for another college, I came to Rutgers my Junior year underestimating the challenge academically. Combining that with my decision to pursue pre-dentistry, I fell behind and became lost immediately. When my friend told me about the ODASIS program and how much it contributed to his growth as a student, I wasted no time in going. I can say without any hesitation that was one of the best decisions of my life. Besides the countless number of resources what is so special about it is the genuine passion for the program that all of the staff exhibits as well as the personal relationships that they develop. ODASIS gave me the support, foundation, and study habits to succeed throughout undergrad and now in dental school.

In a school with thousands of students ODASIS quickly became my support system.I was provided with various resources that I would not have been able to find anywhere else in my four years at Rutgers. Every program I participated in at ODASIS helped me get one step closer to medical school. Their academic/non-academic support is amazing and ranged from tutoring for my math and science courses to the MCAT preparation course to helping me get ready for medical school interviews. Also, the advisors at ODASIS are great, I was able to approach them with any concerns I had and they were always willing to help. Without ODASIS I would not have been able to excel to the degree that I did, and I would not be where I am today.

Hey Jesenia,

Thank you so much for all of your help today. It feels so comforting to know that there is a voice in this huge school that can assist me on a personal level.

Dear Dr. Khan,

I wanted to write a letter of appreciation and gratitude for helping me to get into the tutoring program for Calculus 135. I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming coming from a small school to this gargantuan one. Thank you for fulfilling my hopes and giving me the academic support I so desperately needed. I won't let you down. Thank you again and again.

Hello Taruna,

I just wanted to email you on my shadowing today. I arrived at Dr. Codjoe's office, which is really nice and spacious and has an adjoining physical therapy gym. I saw about 6 to 7 patients (I should be able to see more in the future) and I was able to see how Dr. Codjoe interacted with his patients. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity of shadowing Dr. Codjoe. In more ways than one, my dreams of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon has been reinforced through this special experience. :)

Dear Jon,

You are without a doubt the most influential person I have met here at Rutgers (not an understatement). Without you, I would have come here to Rutgers with no idea of what was awaiting me. I had never even taken a tour of Rutgers when I chose to accept; I just came here because it would be cheaper to study here on my own. Throughout my academic years, my parents, despite not being able to help me academically, have always wanted me to be the first to go to college. You have become my mentor, as well as a parent to me. You are always looking out for me, finding new ways for me to grow and to keep me focused on what I have to do. You have always been there for me. The summer you reached out to me through e-mail had changed my entire course of how I would perform and develop here at Rutgers. You offered me ODASIS, but at the same time so much more. Your advice was always the first I sought out before anyone else’s. Without your advice and counsel, I would not have found other advisors or sought out opportunities. What you have done for me has influence my future. I am thankful for your support, kindness, and friendship. A mentor and a parent like you is hard to find, so I will continue to cherish our growing friendship. Thank you for everything. God bless.

Dear Ms. Cadena,

Thank you very much for the great work that the ODASIS team is doing to help my daughter be the best that she can be at Rutgers University ... once again, thank you very much for the help you have been giving to our children.
