Dual Credit Program

English12: Expository Writing

Program Overview

The English12: Expository Writing Course is for high school seniors in the New Brunswick High School and the New Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School. The course will provide the opportunity to enroll in an English course in a high school setting that allows them, if successfully completed, to earn both high school and college credits. The students will experience the rigor of a college course, while completing their NJ state senior English graduation requirement. If the course is passed, the student will receive 10 high school credits. If they complete the course with a C+ or higher, they will earn the additional 3 credits for Expository Writing 101 from Rutgers University. This course relies heavily on student- teacher interaction with complex texts. The curriculum will consist of reading excerpts by acknowledged authors and analytical writing based on a thesis or project.

Program Eligibility

New Brunswick rising seniors may be considered for the program based on the nomination of the course's English instructor from their respective high schools. The nominated students will be asked to complete an application, submit their SAT scores to date, and take writing prompt. No more than 17 students per high school will be selected to participate.
