How is Access-Med Organized?

Access-Med is organized into two major phases (I and II) to serve admitted students. In addition, a strong Pre-Phase I Program is offered to help students successfully complete the requirements for acceptance into Phase I.

Pre-Phase I

  1. Students in the ODASIS Academic Support Program are enrolled in General Biology or General Chemistry Supplemental Instruction sessions.
  2. Academic support and enrichment activities are provided.

Phase I

  1. Completion of General Biology, General Chemistry, and one semester of both a college math and English course.
  2. Attend seminars and workshops at Rutgers University and special medical conferences at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
  3. Interact with health care professionals and obtain career counseling and academic assistance, as needed.
  4. Continue Phase I activities throughout the completion of the B.A./B.S. degree.

MCAT/DAT Course

  1. Unique and extensive preparation program conducted from October through April; sessions are held twice a week, including winter and spring break.
  2. Receive academic support in key content areas of biology, chemistry, physics, and verbal/writing skills. In the junior year, students have the option of applying to Phase II or applying to other medical schools.

Phase II

A transitional year program in which accepted students are simultaneously admitted to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS). Students take medical school courses during the fall semester of their senior year. These courses count toward Biology elective credits for the B.A./B.S. degree. Upon successful completion of these courses, students automatically matriculate into RWJMS.
