MCAT Course - By Special Permission Only
3 credits (1.5 fall, 1.5 spring)
Program Overview
The MCAT course was introduced in 1993 and has played a key role in the outstanding record of success of underrepresented students gaining acceptances into highly competitive medical and other health professional schools. The primary purpose of the MCAT course is to provide ODASIS students with the tools they need to achieve competitive scores on the Medical College Admission Test, thereby significantly enhancing their chances for acceptance into medical school.
Program Description (MCAT):
The MCAT course starts during the first week of September and ends in April prior to the MCAT exam. Students are provided intensive supplemental instruction in the key content areas of biology, chemistry, physics, as well as verbal and writing skills. The course is offered on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, students are required to attend classes during winter break from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and spring break from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Registered in ODASIS for at least TWO years
- Minimum of 8 hours per week in ODASIS Study Hall
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- Minimum BCPM of 3.5
- Completion of Biology 1 & 2 (not online)
- Completion of Chemistry 1 & 2 (not online)
- Completion of Organic Chemistry I (307) & Organic Chemistry II (308) - completed by the end of Summer 2025
- Completion of Physics 1 & 2 or be enrolled in Physics 2 in the Fall (not online)
- Completion of English
- Completion of Calc I
- Completion of Statistics (preferably 409) or be enrolled in the Fall.
- Completion of an upper-level English course such as Writing for the Sciences; Technical Writing; Research in Disciplines, Topic: Science, Medicine and Society; or be enrolled in that course during the Fall
